The holiday season always seems so crazy busy! What with shopping for gifts, baking, Nutcracker ballet rehearsals, Christmas pageants, parties, and everything else that goes with it...not to mention all the regular daily "LIFE" stuff that happens on top of it! With all the potential stress that the holidays can bring, it is more important than EVER to focus on your fitness! Exercise is one of the best ways to reduce the damage that stress can have on your body! Well I'm here to tell you that yes, Virginia...there IS a way to schedule exercise into an already hectic holiday schedule... |
Program a Daily Reminder on Your Phone
Start by setting a daily reminder on your smartphone's calendar app. Figure out a time that you know you can commit to getting about 30 minutes of exercise in and JUST DO IT. No excuses. And for the love of all that is healthy and fit, DO NOT HIT SNOOZE!!!
Get Up 30 Minutes Earlier
Do you normally roll out of bed at 7am to go to work or bring your kids to school? Try setting your alarm 30 minutes earlier (EEK!) so you can get in a good workout. Studies have shown that working out in the morning can help boost your metabolism for the day and can also improve your mood! You are also more likely to stick with a fitness routine.
Turn Off the TV at Night
Not a morning person? Do you already get up before the rooster at O-Dark-Thirty to get to work or bring your teenager to high school? Then schedule your workout sesh for at night!
"But my favorite sitcom, drama, reality Kardashian circus, etc is on!!!" you scream.
Ever hear of DVR? On Demand? HULU??? Your show can wait. Your health and fitness goals, however, cannot.
Exercising at night has its benefits, too! Some people find they sleep better after hitting it hard in the gym. Be sure to give your body some time to cool down after the workout before heading off to bed.

And If You Really Can't Commit to a Full 30-Minute Workout
I totally understand. Some days you just can't devote the time to do a full-on workout. So instead, break it up throughout the day. A 10 to 15-minute workout in the AM is better than not doing anything at all. You can always do an additional 10 to 15- minute evening workout, too! It all adds up!
As you can see, there is always room in your daily life for exercise. You just have to be willing to carve out and commit the time to do it. Once you do--and keep doing it--you'll wonder why you didn't start sooner!
